Somehow I thought I could just stop by at 1 a.m. and have a coffee at Kharma amid the chaos.

Anyone know if the Copy Pro seemed to be damaged by the fire? My neighbors run that place, that would suck for them.

An aside to all this that I think someone might find interesting...
The intensity of the fire near the transformer that exploded at the corner of Fry and Hickory Street burned away all the ugly yellow paint on the west corner of the building and revealed the original red brick on the facade of the Tomato. The fire also seems to have exposed some of the original signage that was painted on the Hickory side of the building.

This is a photo by Caleb Simpson sent to me earlier tonight. You can see the letter "A" pretty clearly within the framed rectangular section above the arcs of the fireman's giant pee spray.
During all the hubub of the burning I could also see the letter "H" to the left of the "A". It's possible that you might be able to see more during daylight.
Going through bullshit that I collected while I was helping the SFS folks, there was a Hamilton-Perryman Drugstore at that address in 1947.
Go ahead now, make fun of me.
Regardless, it was a pretty impressive candlelight vigil...

No, no........I admit it was me.
Now most people would think I did it because I didn't want that Houston tycoon to be the one to raze it....... some local patriotic gesture of sorts. That's not the case.
I just didn't like the pizza. Ooze like cheeze, doughy bread.....and they just couldn't get the sauce right.
not bad breadsticks though don't tell the cops I'm hiding down south till it blows over.

everything about this is fucking sad. its sad that they gutted all those buildings, and its really sad that some dumbass decided to torch the place. fires are dangerous. they spread, and people die in them. arson is seldom a good idea. this whole situation is disheartening to say the least.

you're right....but considering it was at night I think whoever did it didn't want anyone to be there, night being a time when it and the adjoining stores would be vacant. it nearly cooked Cool beans.
That video is very crazy. You can't get any details. I thought that guy Sean White on related videos was an ex employee. Turns out he's a snowboarder who has a move called the Flying Tomatoe

i disagree. fire is one of the ultimate protest statements. dangerous, irreversible, high visibility. it may not have been responsible, but i say it's a fine and grand gesture of how a lot of people feel. also it's saying, in a way, that the people are going to have the final word and not the faceless developers/businessmen. kind of a "you can't fire me, i quit" statement. brun on you crazy arsonist.
